Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice Bowl a.k.a "Lu Rou Fan" Recipe

Saturday, October 25, 2025

Lu Rou Fan is one of our favorite Taiwanese dishes, which we enjoyed during our month-long stay in Taipei last year. Our favorite was from a little stall called 天天利 'Tian Tian Li' in the middle of Xi Men Ding district. It always has a long line unless you come during a thunderstorm at 3 p.m. like we did.

Once we got back home, I immediately went on a mission to remake it at home. Finally, after many trials, here is the recipe I use when I make this dish once every two weeks.

Cooking Indonesian Beef Stew a.k.a Rendang with Instapot

Saturday, February 9, 2019

According to CNN' survey on 2017, Rendang is the world's most delicious food. How blessed I am to grow up eating this dish. I used to cook this using instant seasoning but out of so many brands, I only like one particular one. Unfortunately, our local Asian Supermarket no longer carry it so I had to make it from scratch. Turned out it is not that hard. I don't mind making it any day as long as I have chopper and instapot.

First thing first: cut the beef meat then brown them. Pressure cook it with beef bone and water for 35 minutes (or use the meat/ stew setting on Instapot)

Worcestershire Sauce Chicken

Saturday, December 8, 2018

This is one of the most popular home-cooked chicken dish in Indonesia and our family favorite. We call it "Ayam Saos Inggris" in Indonesia.  Over the years, I have been trying different ways and ingredients before finally settle with this one. Instead of deep frying like the way it is usually cooked, I just brown the chicken for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side.

Stir Fry Thai Basil Beef, Pork, or Chicken

Stir Fry Thai Basil Pork
This is one of those easy quick meals that I have in mind when I only have 15 minutes to prepare lunch or dinner, which include a trip to the backyard to pick up some basil leaves and Thai chilies. I got my basil plants from Trader Joe's and stick it in my raised bed. Surprisingly, it is still alive after 6 months.

Crispy Baked Chicken

Saturday, February 18, 2017

Our family love El Pollo Loco Chicken so I challenged my self to make the homemade version with organic chicken. A few weeks ago I shared some of this chicken with my neighbor and she said her picky eater son like it a lot. Yayyyy

First thing first:
Season the chicken with plenty of salt and pepper. I also add dashes of Old Bay Seasoning
then brown chicken on skin side for about 5 minutes (this can get pretty messy with the oil splatting all over so you may want to do it outside)

Cooking Beef Bourguignon with Pressure Cooker

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

I was inspired to cook Beef Bourguignon when I read my friend Marina's post about her cooking it on her blog a few years ago. However, I didn't own a dutch oven, I still don't have one until now, in addition, it was summer time when I wanted to give it a try and there's no way I would turn on the oven for 4 hours. So I tried other way to cook the dish: using pressure cooker or instapot.

Lemongrass Chicken

My sister in law cooked this for us when we visited them last year. I love it and like it even more when I learned it's easy to make and can be frozen.
