Homemade Lasagna Recipe

Saturday, February 27, 2016

The boys are into Garfield books these days. I am not a fan but I let them read those books as long as they are also reading other books that I picked from the library. Anyway, lasagna is Garfield's favorite food so they asked if I can cook it. They pretty much involved in my menu planning nowadays.

I tried to cook it a few times and my boys do not like the ricotta/ cottage cheese so I use sliced Muenster Cheese instead. I called this our family lasagna because we tweak the recipe according to our preference. If you are looking for the real classic lasagna please do not follow this recipe but if you trust our taste then please give it a try.  :)

Homemade Lasagna
Ingredients:
1/2 pound sausage and/or meatball
I used Chef Bruce Aidells Chicken Teriyaki & Pineapple Meatballs from Costco
1/2 pound ground beef or pork
1/2 onion - diced
2 cloves garlic - minced
1 tomatoes - cut into small pieces
1 jar of pasta/ spaghetti sauce
2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and black pepper - as prefer
2 teaspoon chopped dried parsley

9-12 lasagna noodles – depends on how big is your casserole dish
175 grams grated mozzarella cheese
Parmesan cheese – as prefer
175 grams shredded mozzarella cheese - freeze the rest to be used for next time or pizza topping
18 sliced of Muenster Cheese

Direction:
1.      Heat the cooking pan, add the butter, sauté the minced onion, garlic, ground meat, onion, and meatball/ sausage until browned. Add in tomatoes, pasta sauce and the rest of the ingredients except the cheese and lasagna. Continue cooking for about 20 minutes.

2.      Boil a pot of lightly salted water + 1 tablespoon oil. Cook lasagna until al dente

3.      Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degree Celsius.

4.      Brush your casserole dish with butter/ oil. Place 1/3 lasagnas at the bottom, add 1/3 of the sauce on top then cover with 1/3 of sliced cheese, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan. Continue with the same step two more times.

5.      Cover with the dish with aluminum foil.

6.      Bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil, then bake for another 15 minutes.

Enjoy!
